As previously announced, our Mass time is changing to Saturdays, 5:30pm – replacing our old time of Sunday Morning at 9:30am. However, our first Saturday evening Mass will be on Saturday 19th September – 5:30pm (and not on Saturday 12th September as originally announced). Our last Sunday Morning Mass will therefore be on Sunday 13th Septmber – 9:30am.

All Masses will be in the Peterskapelle, as per usual.

We apologise for the late change, and any confusion this may have caused.

Starting with the weekend of 19th September, we will be celebrating Holy Mass in English at 5:30pm on Saturday evening. This service will take place in the Peterskapelle, as before, and replaces our Sunday Morning service. (Our last Sunday morning Mass will therefore be on Sunday 13th September.)

(This changeover was originally planned to take place on Saturday 12th September – but has now been changed to the following weekend due to Chapel availability.)

We are changing the mass time, as Fr. Thomson – who has been celebrating Mass since the beginning of the Catholic English Community in Luzern – has completed his studies and is therefore leaving Luzern. His last celebration will be on Saturday 12th September. We are fortunate to have Br. George of the Capuchin Monastery taking over our celebrations – as he has prior obligations on Sunday morning, we have moved our celebrations to Saturday evening.

We will not be meeting for Lectio Divina until further notice, due to the summer holidays. We will post a further announcement when Lectio Divina resumes.

We will most likely continue in an online-first format after the summer break, but are hoping to occasionally also meet in person. Details will be confirmed in due course.

From Friday 17th July until Tuesday 21st July, we are going on a walking Pilgrimage from Luzern to Maria Rickenbach, Flüeli Ranft, and Brünig.

On Sunday 19th July, we will be celebrating Mass in Flüeli Ranft (instead of at the Peterskapelle).

Pilgrimage details

Friday 17th: Theme: “Connect”: train to Horw, walk from Horw to Dallenwil/Niederrickenbach (approx 4 hours) – via , take cable car to Maria Rickenbach, stay in monastery. It is also possible to join us part-way at e.g. Stans.

Saturday 18th: Theme: “Serve”: cablecar to Niederrickenbach, most likely train to Stans, walk to Flüeli Ranft, stay overnight in hotel in Flüeli Ranft.

Sunday 19th: Theme: “Grow”: Mass at the Untere Ranft Kapelle at 11am, followed by community lunch.

Monday 20th: Theme: “Celebrate”: walk to Kaiserstuhl, stay in hotel.

Tuesday 21st: Theme: “Transform”: walk to Brünig, return to Luzern by train.

We will post the exact walking paths soon, in case you want to join us part way through a given day.

We are happy to confirm that we are able to celebrate Holy Mass together again, starting with Pentecost – Sunday 31st May (9:30am).

Safety Measures

It is important that we observe the following safety measures: these measures continue to apply (updated 28th November 2020).

The Bishopric of Basel also recommends that you install the SwissCovid app [iPhone, Android].

• 😷 Masks must be worn. They must cover both nose and mouth. (Please do not wear masks with a valve: these do not provide any protection for your fellow congregation members.)
• Please keep a distance of 2m from all people who do not live in the same household as you.
• Please avoid gathering within the Chapel – before, during, or after the service.
• The chapel has a maximum capacity of 39 seats. Please sit only on the marked seats – one person per bench.
• Use the entrance on the river/Reuss side of the chapel (on the right when facing the Altar).
• Please exit using the door on the city side (when facing the altar: back left).
• We will refrain from singing until further notice.
• Peace greeting: we will either use “Namaste”, nod, or smile at each other.
• Communion is received in silence, at your seat, on your hand. The dialogue “The Body of Christ” – “Amen”, will be spoken together, beforehand.
• There are no confessions, until further notice.

We are hoping to recommence celebrating Holy Mass together, starting on Pentecost (31st May). Please note that all services will be subject to various precautions as specified by the diocese and authorities, we will post specifics closer to the time.

We will continue with our online service on Sunday 24th May. Lectio Divina on Friday 29th May will likewise follow the online format.

All services, and events, are cancelled until further notice, due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

At this time, all services up to and including 19th April (including Easter celebrations) are cancelled. We will post further updates if and when the situation changes. Note that these measures also affect all German-language services in Luzern and beyond.

At time of writing, Churches in Luzern remain open for private prayer. This may change, we recommend checking the (German-language) website of the Catholic Church of Luzern for the latest information.

Given the current situation with the Coronavirus, we regret to announce the postponement of the CECLU Anniversary celebration (originally scheduled for Sunday 22nd March), until further notice.

• Sunday 23rd February: Holy Mass exceptionally at 10am in the St. Karl Kirche (instead of 9:30am in the Peterskapelle).
• Otherwise regular Sunday Mass at 9:30am in the Peterskapelle.
• Ash Wednesday (26th Feb): 6:15pm in the Peterskapelle.
• Good Friday (10th April): 3pm in the Peterskapelle.
• Easter Sunday (12th April): 9:30am in the Peterskapelle.

Other Regular Meetings

• Way of the Cross, and Lectio Divina: 5:30pm, Peterskapelle – every Friday from 28th Feb until 3rd April.

Special Events

• Celebration of the First anniversary of the English Catholic Community: Sunday 22nd March – all are invited to Raclette in the Reusshaus, immediately after regular Sunday Mass.

On Sunday 23rd February, we will extraordinarily be celebrating Holy Mass at 10am in the St. Karl Kirche.

This is due to the PetersKapelle being closed that weekend, in turn due to Fasnacht.
